CHANDIGARH: Before you sink your teeth into delicious fares this
monsoon, be cautious. The season brings with it various ailments like indigestion, food poisoning and infections, which to a large extent are the fallout of unhygienic eatables.
"Wash green leafy vegetables properly. In rainy season, these may contain mud, dirt and worms. Be extra careful with vegetables like cauliflower and cabbage that may contain insects and worms.
Avoid fish as it gives eggs in the season. And try to add a lot of ginger and garlic while preparing food, as these build up immunity and help fight stomach and throat infections," said Nalini, a dietitian of Sector 2, Panchkula.
Dr Swaran Singh Walia, MD medicine, of Sector 18 said, "Chances of water-borne diseases, like diarrhoea, vomiting and typhoid, among others, increase during the season. And so, one should drink clean water, avoid stale food, wash and dry vegetables before cooking and eat well-cooked food."
